Top 3 things project person should note while ordering Cranes :

  1. The Crane Gantry Girder and Rails have been ordered or not.
  2. Insert plates for the mounting the Gantry Girders have been included in the civil design or not.
  3. In case the Gantry Girder is of Civil, then the insert plates for mounting the Rail and DSL have been included in the Civil or not.

Others points to be cross checked while ordering cranes:

  1. EOT Crane manufacturer is committing to the time frame by when the crane is required at site.
  2. Load test arrangement (load arrangement) scope has been defined in the contract.
  3. Arrangement of slings would be in whose scope.
  4. Freight scope has been defined in the contract.
  5. Site route has been checked or not. Whether the crane in single piece can be transported or not. If not inform the crane vendor to make provision for splitting the crane.
  6. Unloading, Storage area, watch and ward is defined in the contract.
  7. Transfer of the crane from the storage area to the installation place defined or not.
  8. Finally the scope of installation and commissioning and hand over is freezed.
  9. Does the Crane Load test at site requires factory inspector to be present. If yes discuss in whose scope.

Points to be checked during execution of the EOT Crane manufacturing:

  1. Is the delivery of the crane matching with the project schedule. Both pre and post delivery from the project schedule is detrimental – in case of pre delivery there are chances of crane getting damaged due to storage and theft. In Post dead line delivery one will eventually be penalised by not able to use the crane for the purpose used for.
  2. Is the site accessible for the crane installation. I.e there is space for installation crane to enter and install the EOT Crane. In case of closed buildings, precaution needs to be taken and temporary hold of the building must be initiated. Building should be completed only after the crane is installed.
  3. Are the Gantry Girders installed and permanently welded/anchored and are within tolerances.
  4. Is there enough space above the Gantry Girder for the installation crane to install the EOT Crane.
  5. Temporary / permanent power supply is available in the bay where the crane is to be installed.
